Erik S Siebert, the current US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, shared condolences and expressed grief on Jessica’s demise, saying he was ‘heartbroken beyond words’ .

Former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia (EDVA) Jessica Aber was found dead at her residence on Saturday, reported The Hill. The investigation into the death of the 43-year-old, will be carried out by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia.
In an official statement, the Alexandria Police Department said, “This morning, at approximately 9:18 a.m., Alexandria Police responded to the 900 block of Beverley Drive for the report of an unresponsive woman. Officers located a deceased woman. Following notification of family members, the Alexandria Police Department can confirm the identity of the woman as Ms. Jessica Aber, age 43, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. VIRGINIA. As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway.”
Reacting to her death, the current US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik S Siebert, said he was “heartbroken beyond words”.
“She was unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard,” he said in a statement.
“Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard. Jess was a proud Virginian from high school through college and throughout her career. She loved EDVA and EDVA loved her back. We remain committed to her life’s work, a commitment to seeking justice, as she would have wanted,” he added.
Who Was Jessica Aber?
– Jessica started her career in the EDVA in 2009 as an Assistant US Attorney, handling cases related to financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation.
– From 2015 to 2016, Aber took on a special role as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division at the Department of Justice. She then went on to serve as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division at EDVA until she became the US Attorney.
-In 2021, then-President Joe Biden nominated Jessica as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
– She resigned from the position of US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in January, after Trump assumed office.
