Job generation, with a special focus on women, is set to be the central theme of both the union budget and the Economic Survey 2025, News18 has learnt.

The Economic Survey in 2024 highlighted a decline in the unemployment rate and a resilient economy. “India’s real GDP grew by 8.2 per cent in FY24, posting growth of over 7 per cent for a third consecutive year, driven by stable consumption demand and steadily improving investment demand,” the survey stated.

Sources suggest the government anticipates further GDP growth fuelled by increased personal taxes, leading to higher earnings, savings, and spending. This projection is based on infrastructure growth in key sectors like steel, roads, and railways, alongside a surge in rural spending and the agrarian sector.

The survey reportedly offers suggestions to the government, potentially influencing the union budget, aimed at employment generation. These include SOPs and concessions for MSMEs and start-ups. However, the primary focus is on increasing women’s employment across sectors, with a suggestion to deregulate or remove restrictions on women’s employment.

Chief economic adviser V Anantha Nageswaran hinted at this approach, stating, “If you want to increase female workforce participation, then the focus has to be on the plumbing of deregulation that has to happen in state and local governance.”

Sources also indicate a significant emphasis on achieving the Viksit Bharat goal by 2047.

The Economic Survey‘s projections and suggestions often serve as a benchmark for the union budget.
