A recent survey revealed that 90 percent of individuals under 25 who are employed suffer from anxiety, meaning their minds are constantly unsettled and they frequently feel worried. On one side, leaders like NR Narayana Murthy and SN Subramaniam encourage longer working hours, on the other side, anxiety and depression are rising among the youth due to job complexities.

As a result, they struggle to perform their tasks effectively, and their personal lives are also affected negatively. They often express distress over issues such as salary, job security, promotions, relocations, and personal relationships.

State of Emotion Well Being Report 2024

The survey was conducted by One to One Help Group and was released as the ‘State of Emotion Well Being Report 2024’. The survey report, carried out over approximately 83,000 counseling sessions, indicates that young professionals in corporate settings urgently require mental health support. The findings suggest that, in contrast to those under 25, anxiety affects 67 percent of individuals who are settled and over 45 years old. The survey emphasizes the immediate need for assistance for youths working in corporate environments to navigate these challenges. Many of them require guidance from mental health professionals.

The data indicates a 15 percent rise in mental health issues among corporate employees. A significant concern is that 59 percent of workers have exhibited signs of self-harm in some manner. Family members of these employees have also displayed suicidal tendencies. This underscores that both employees and their families are in need of counseling.

Support from Managers is Essential

Mahua Bisht, the CEO of One to One Help, stated that “our report has shown a significant increase in anxiety among employees. There may be various contributors to this, but the most critical factor is that managers can play a significant role in alleviating this issue. Timely assistance from a manager can offer essential emotional support to employees, which would result in a very positive influence.”

The report highlights that in relation to employee counseling, many workplace issues have been identified. Additionally, a 7 percent increase in men seeking counseling has been observed. Financial worries prompted 70 percent of men to pursue counseling, with their primary concern being how they and their families will manage financially. They associate this with both their personal lives and societal expectations, leading to social pressure.

Furthermore, the data reveals that the number of women seeking counseling surpasses that of men. In this report, the prevalence of depression and anxiety is highest among individuals under 30. Factors contributing to this include changes in career, relocation, and relationship difficulties.
