Joe Root came out to bat at No. 4 for England in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against India at Headingley in Leeds, and by crossing the two-run mark, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring the most runs in India-England Tests played on English soil. During his 24-year-long Test career, Tendulkar played 17 Tests for India in England and, with the help of four centuries and eight fifties, scored 1575 runs. On the other hand, Root now has 1579 runs to his name in 16 Tests against India in England.
The former England Test captain has hammered seven centuries and five fifties in Tests against India in England.

Root needed two runs on Saturday to break Sachin’s record, and he achieved the objective by hitting Mohammed Siraj for a four on the second ball of the 32nd over of England’s first innings.
The Sheffield-born cricketer is England’s leading run getter in the five-day format of the game, and he also holds the record for scoring the most runs in Test matches played between India and England.
If Root manages to score at least 154 runs in the ongoing Test, then he will become the first batter in the world to score 3000 runs in Test cricket against India.

Root came out to bat for England in the third session of the second day’s play at Headingley after Jasprit Bumrah breached Ben Duckett’s defence and shattered his stumps on the third ball of the 29th over.
The left-handed top-order batter faced 94 balls and, with the help of nine fours, scored 62 runs. He added 122 runs for the second wicket with Ollie Pope after Bumrah dismissed Zak Crawley for 4 runs from six balls on the last ball of the first over.
