Devara: Part 1 earned $5.1 million in the United States in its opening week.

Jr NTR starrer Devara: Part 1 has earned more than Adam Driver’s Megalopolis in the United States in its opening week. Both the films released on the same weekend.

Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor starrer Devara: Part 1 was released in cinemas worldwide on Friday. At the global box office, the movie clashed with Francis Ford Coppola’s much-anticipated film – Megalopolis. The Koratala Siva directorial outperformed Coppola’s film and earned $5.1 million on its opening weekend.

As reported by Comscore, Megalopolis earned just $4 million in its opening week in North America. The big-budget movie, which features some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, battled mixed reviews and negative word of mouth. The movie ranked sixth at the box office. On the other hand, Devara: Part 1, which was a relatively smaller release, earned $5.1 million at the North American box office. The box office, however, was topped by The Wild Robot which earned $35 million domestically.

Megalopolis raked in $2.1 million at the overseas market and earned a total of $6.1 million. Devara: Part 1 earned $33 million and raced ahead of this $120 million science-fiction. Directed by Coppola, Megalopolis starred Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D. B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman in key roles. Reportedly, the film took around 40 years in production as it was rejected by studios. The director had put in $80 million from his side to complete the film. The movie revolves around an architect who builds a futuristic utopia.

Devara: Part 1 was made on a budget of Rs 300 crore, which roughly equates to $35 million. The movie revolves around a man who embarks on a sea journey to protect his people. Ahead of the film, this action-drama was premiered at the Beyond Fest in Los Angeles. The movie also stars Saif Ali Khan, Shruti Marathe, and Prakash Raj in supporting roles.
