Former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas on Saturday congratulated the BJP for its victory in the Delhi assembly elections. Without naming him, he took a swipe at former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal saying he has “no sympathy for a man who crushed the dreams of AAP party workers”.

“I congratulate the BJP for the victory and I hope that they’ll work for the people of Delhi… I have no sympathy for a man who crushed the dreams of AAP party workers. Delhi is now free from him… He used those dreams for his personal ambitions. Today, justice has been delivered,” he said, reacting to the AAP’s loss in the national capital.

He further said Delhi is now free of Kejriwal, whom he accused of using the party to fuel his personal ambition. He also mocked former deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who lost from the Jangpura assembly constituency, saying his “apolitical wife cried” when she heard about his defeat.

Kejriwal, who has won the New Delhi seat thrice before, lost it to the BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma in one of the biggest upsets of the election, reminiscent of the one he himself had caused by defeating former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit in 2013.

Vishwas, who is one of the founding members of the AAP, was seen as a close aide of Kejriwal since the India Against Corruption movement. That closeness was reflected in the AAP giving him a ticket to contest from Amethi in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, which he lost to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

But, his relationship with Kejriwal degraded over the years as he was known to not toe the party line on all issues. Things came to a head in 2018 after the AAP removed him as the party incharge of Rajasthan, a key post in the party and given to him as a peace deal following his rebellion against the leadership in 2017.
