Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing a huge challenge within his party, and as per reports, is now left with the support of just 20-23 Liberal MPs. Reports say Trudeau is likely to resign this week, with 131 out 153 MPs against him. As per reports, Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic province caucuses have decided to remove Trudeau.
Sources say the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office has asked all employees to be present on Monday. While the Liberal Party is in no mood to go for elections, reports say Trudeau is likely to resign as the leader of The Liberal Party to save himself from the embarrassment at Liberal National Caucus meet on Wednesday. However, he may continue as interim PM till new leadership is elected or the party can give a new leader.
Reports say it takes three to four months for a party to elect a new leader.
According to reports, Trudeau is planning to end the next session of Parliament ‘prorogue’ and could advise the same to the Governor General. This could be done to avoid no confidence motion so he could continue as interim PM.
The Finance Bill will last till March and that is when the next session may be scheduled.

Trudeau came to power in 2015 and led the Liberals to two more victories in 2019 and 2021. However, in the recent opinion polls, the Canadian PM trails his rival, Conservative Pierre Poilievre, by 20 points.
