Kathy Bates has admitted she dropped 20 pounds with the help of Ozempic.Â
The actress, 76, who has lost a total of 100 pounds, confirmed how she managed to ditch the weight during an interview with People.Â
Bates dropped 80 pounds over the last seven years, which she achieved by changing what she ate and her overall lifestyle, she told the outlet.
She was able to shed the final 20 pounds with Ozempic.Â
‘There’s been a lot of talk that I just was able to do this because of Ozempic,’ she told the publication. ‘But I have to impress upon people out there that this was hard work for me, especially during the pandemic. It’s very hard to say you’ve had enough.’Â

Bates revealed she really started making improvements in her health after receiving a diagnosis for type 2 diabetes seven years ago.  Â
‘I ate because I was afraid, and I ate because it was a FU to my self-esteem,’ she shared. ‘Diabetes] runs in my family, and I’d seen what my father had gone through. He had had a leg amputation. One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously, and it terrified me. It scared me straight.’
Bates then embarked on a health and fitness journey which saw her ditch fast food and discontinue eating by 8PM.
‘I used to eat terribly: burgers and Cokes and pizza,’ she admitted.
Her niece also shared advice about the signals bodies send to indicate they are full: ‘When we’re full, we experience an involuntary sigh,’ Bates recounted.Â
‘I just pushed the plate away,’ she added.Â
That being said, Bates does allow herself to indulge from time to time.Â
The day prior to her interview, a Pink’s food truck visited the Paramount lot where Bates was filming, and she enjoyed her first hot dog in quite some time. Â

‘Oh, my God, I hadn’t had a hot dog in such a long time. Today I’m getting back on my track,’ she said.Â
The weight loss has also provided Bates with relief from lymphedema, a condition she was diagnosed with after she underwent a double mastectomy in 2012 amid her prior battle with breast cancer.Â
Lymphedema occurs due to ’tissue swelling caused by an accumulation of protein-rich fluid that’s usually drained through the body’s lymphatic system,’ per the Mayo Clinic.
‘I’m lucky that I don’t have to wear my compression sleeves every day. It’s such a thrill to be able to put my arm into a jacket and it fits,’ Bates shared with People.

‘Physically, I’m capable of doing this show,’ she explained. ‘I don’t have to sit down. I can stand up all day long and walk and move and breathe and do so many things that I couldn’t before.’
Bates’ confirmation she used Ozempic came after she sparked speculation she had achieved the weight loss with the medication.
‘They got Kathy Bates on ozempic???? D**n,’ one posted to X.
