British No 1 Katie Boulter’s dream December got even better as she kicked off her 2025 season by leading Great Britain to victory over Argentina in the United Cup.

The 28-year-old announced on social media last week that she had become engaged to long-term boyfriend and world No 9 Alex de Minaur.

The tennis power couple, who have been dating since 2022, could even face each other on court this week with Britain due to play De Minaur’s Australia on New Year’s Day.

Last week, Boulter and De Minaur thrilled their fans with an Instagram snap in which the Brit had her left arm around the neck of her 25-year-old beau revealing that she was wearing a stunning engagement ring on her wedding finger.

They captioned the post: ‘We’ve been keeping a small secret…’

Having initially met on the professional tennis circuit, the pair ran into each other while out for a 6am coffee.

It was here that their relationship blossomed and Boulter admitted that was when she knew he was the one.

‘We bumped into each other at six in the morning and ended up getting a coffee. From that moment, I knew I was in it for the long haul,’ Boulter had previously told The Age.

De Minaur ended his year with a huge win at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown bouncing back from his disappointing ATP Finals in Turin where he failed to win a match.

And Boulter certainly looked as if she was still on a high on Monday as she dispatched Nadia Podorosk in straight sets in Sydney, then paired up with Charles Broom in the doubles to secure the tie after Billy Harris had lost his singles rubber to Tomas Etcheverry

She told the United Cup website: ‘Very, very pleased with today. Last year I played so well in singles and didn’t get any mixed doubles rubbers, so I really wanted this one so badly.

‘I feel like we both played so great together considering it’s our first time. But I’m just thrilled to get the win.’

Harris, stepping up on the men’s side in the absence of the injured Jack Draper, looked set to continue the winning theme as the took the first set against Etcheverry 6-3.

But a rankings difference of 66 kicked in and Etcheverry won the next two sets 6-3 6-2 to level the tie, leaving Boulter and Broom to secure victory with a 7-6 (4) 7-5 win over Etcheverry and Maria Lourdes Carle.

Boulter and De Minaur are both set to play at next month’s Australian Open.
