Katy Perry fans share theory over why her tour has got off to such a rocky start

Katy Perry fans have shared a theory as to why her tour has got off to such a rocky start.

The Teenage Dreams singer’s Lifetimes Tour has seen an onslaught of online scrutiny, poor ticket sales and cancelled dates – after she returned from her mission into space.

Perry has been met with criticism for her lacklustre dance moves, underwhelming vocals and clunky costumes – but one onlooker has a theory as to why the show seems ‘disjointed’.

TikToker Catherine believes the concert was meant to be intertwined with references to the 40-year-old’s involvement in the Blue Origin space flight but these were pulled at the last minute due to public outcry.

Perry was one of six passengers aboard the all-female 11-minute excursion to the edge of space which proved to be controversial because of its cost and environmental impact.

She donned a blue jumpsuit and carried a small daisy in honour of her daughter with her for the exorbitant journey many branded as ‘tone deaf’ and ’embarrassing’.

Perry used the opportunity to plug her world tour then sang to her fellow passengers in space and kissed the ground upon her return to earth.

Days later, the artist performed the first date of her fifth world tour in Mexico City confusing fans with her on-stage theatrics.

Catherine speculated that the chaotic nature of the show is due to Perry and her show organisers pulling the plug on elements referencing the Blue Origin flight at the last minute to avoid further scrutiny.

‘Katy Perry was going to come out in her blue astronaut suit. I bet that’s what happened, she was going to have the daisy, that’s why she was wearing the tight jumpsuit and she was going to come out dancing like that,’ she said in a TikTok clip.

‘They probably had like a whole rocket thing and whatever and then at the last minute, they’re like,’ We gotta cut this, we gotta change it because they’re going to make so much f***ing fun of you for being an astronaut on stage’.’

She continued that the remaining space-themed elements were perhaps left in the show because they were big-budget items that would have been too expensive to cut.

‘They had to leave in the moon hanging from the sky and some of the spacey references but they’re like get rid of the aliens and swap in robots, forget the daisy just use a lightsaber,’ Catherine said.

She then cut her some slack, saying Perry probably rehearsed the show thoroughly but had to improvise due to the alleged last minute changes.

‘So it comes across as really disjointed and it is unpractised, not because she didn’t practice for the tour, because she scraped all the astronaut parts of the tour but you still see the little space remnants,’ Catherine said.

Her video amassed more than 2.5million views and many people were quick to agree with Catherine’s suspicion.

‘This is the first theory that makes complete sense,’ one viewer said and another wrote: ‘She thought she was going to come back and be beloved for going to space’.

‘I just found out the butterfly she had in the ship was her set list for the tour…yeah…I think you’re dead on,’ a third wrote.

While in space, Perry flashed a butterfly cutout with her song titles written all over it which was later revealed to be the Lifetimes tour setlist.

‘Maybe that’s why the choreography fights are so slow. It’s supposed to be anti-gravity,’ one user guessed.

‘Omg, even the AI background was probably a last minute solution,’ another said to which Catherine replied: ‘It was gonna be clips from space and that daisy lol’.

‘That’s what I thought when she kept floating and looking into the camera. That was def done so she could add the footage to things later,’ someone agreed.

Others pointed out, bad dancing has always been a tongue-in-cheek part of Perry’s performances.

‘The concept is that she’s in a video game collecting hearts to defend the main villain which is AI! Her show actually has a deep meaning and purpose!’ one supporter commented.

‘At least she always comes up with interesting, creative and goofy ideas. Nobody making funky tours these days. I think y’all should appreciate her on it instead of always complaining,’ a second pointed out.

‘Well everybody is loving it in Mexico. She under-promised and over-delivered,’ a third chimed in.

‘She did galaxy/space during Witness the Tour too because she’s always loved space,’ someone said.
