Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s Los Angeles neighborhood threatened by unexpected predator

Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s tony neighborhood in the Los Angeles suburbs has been menaced by an unexpected predator – to the point a local school was locked down.

A mountain lion was spotted in the Hidden Hills area of Calabasas, where both Khloe, 40, and and her mother Kris, 69, own sprawling estates.

An elementary school in the vicinity went into lockdown for part of Wednesday because of the potential threat posed by the animal.

The feline was seen clambering over multiple tree branches in the area and passing some time on a resident’s lawn, in images obtained by TMZ.

At one point the mountain lion – a member of a species than can run more than 40 miles per hour – was spotted darting up a tree at speed.

Given how many children and pets live in Hidden Hills, the locals are said to be frightened by the presence of the animal, according to a neighborhood insider.

Residents have called the California Department Of Fish And Wildlife (CDFW), only to be informed that the mountain lion cannot be tranquilized or removed under state law.

Mountain lions are a specially protected non-game species in California, and this particular big cat was on its natural territory, which is why the authorities could not expel it.

A CDFW representative has confirmed the organization tends not to intervene in wildlife movements if possible, as its remit is natural resource management and conservation.

Each situation is judged on a case-by-case basis, and there may be rare occasions when an animal might have to be moved to an appropriate habitat nearby.

However the optimal outcome is if the animal is able to leave the affected area of its own accord, the CDFW spokesperson explained.

Khloe is not generally scared of big cats in a controlled environment, as she revealed on her Instagram page during a 2015 trip to Mexico.

She and her half-sister Kendall Jenner could be seen interacting with rescued animals at the Black Jaguar White Tiger Foundation in Monterrey.

The eye-catching snaps showed Khloe playing with what appeared to be an adult brown and white jaguar, as well as petting a large leopard.
