KL Rahul is playing as an opening batter for India in the fourth Test against England, which kicked off at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday (July 23). During the first session of the first day’s play, Rahul entered his name in the record books by becoming the fourth Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid to score 1000 Test runs against England in England.

The ongoing match in Manchester is Rahul’s 13th Test for India in England. He needed 11 runs on Wednesday to join the 1000-run club, and he achieved the objective by scoring a four on the fourth of the seventh over of India’s first innings bowled by Chris Woakes.

Legendary Tendulkar holds the record of scoring the most Test runs for India in England. In 17 matches, with the help of four centuries and eight fifties, he amassed a total of 1575 runs.

Dravid, who led India to a famous Test series win in England in 2007, finished his career with 1376 runs in 13 Tests played on English soil, whereas in 16 Tests played in England, Gavaskar scored 1152 runs.
