Kyle Walker’s Manchester City career seems to be over after the English defender reportedly signed a one-year deal with Everton.
Having last turned up for Pep Guardiola’s City in January, Walker had been on a loan spell with AC Milan. But the 35-year-old veteran is now set for a move to the Goodison Park following discussions with the Toffees chiefs over the past few months.
Manchester City and Everton are now reportedly chalking out the details of whether Walker goes on a permanent deal or a 12-month loan stint, while he sees out the remaining period of his contract with the Etihad-based club. The leading footballer still has a year left in his deal but was left out of the Club World Cup squad and it is understood he is no longer part of coach Guardiola’s plans.
“Kyle has been a wonderful servant to the club. He has given everything and was key to the success. But after the disappointment of last season, the club has to rebuild,” The Sun quoted a source privy to the developments within the club.
Walker’s departure from Manchester City brings to an end a fruitful association that began after his £50 million move from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2017. He won 17 major honours during his illustrious eight years at the club. His trophy cabinet featured six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the Champions League.
In January, Walker told the club officials he was exploring his options abroad and subsequently signed on a loan with AC Milan.
The Serie A club had the chance to extend or make Walker’s move permanent, but they declined after deciding to undergo a rebuilding phase themselves following a disappointing season. Playing under the now-fired Sergio Conceicao, AC Milan finished eighth in the standings.
Walker, who is currently in New York before his whistle-stop tour takes him to Jamaica for a two-week holiday, is looking to make a fresh start with Everton while eyeing a major England milestone.
Standing on 96 caps after the terrible 1-3 loss to Senegal, the veteran has his gaze set on a century of international appearances. With Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel expecting his players to retain optimum fitness and playing standards for selection, Walker believes the stint with Everton under David Moyes will allow him to maintain top performances.
