Kylian Mbappe remains determined to win a treble with Real Madrid this season. Following his dream move from Paris Saint Germain to the Spanish capital last summer, Mbappe initially struggled to showcase his A-game at the new club. The situation, however, appears to have improved with time. With Mbappe striking 30 goals in 43 appearances, Real Madrid have already reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League while holding the second spot in the current La Liga standings.
Before joining the French national team on the international break, Mbappe sat for an interview with Le Parisien. He opened up about various aspects of his career including his former club PSG, his new life in Spain and his dream of helping Real Madrid win their first-ever treble.
When asked about how PSG is performing without him this term, Mbappe said, “I wish them the best but I’m focused on Real Madrid and the chance to win a treble. That’s something Real Madrid has never done yet, so it would be extraordinary in my first season.”
When Mbappe left the French capital, many assumed that his relationship with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi ended on a bitter note. Rubbishing those claims, the 26-year-old striker said, “Of course, I’d shake hands with Nasser if we meet PSG in the UCL. I’m not the kind of person who only looks at the negative, I know how to be grateful for what people give me in life, both professionally and personally.”
Real Madrid and PSG may go head-to-head in the semi-final of the ongoing Champions League. The Spanish giants must beat Arsenal in the last-eight battle while Paris will need to overcome English side Aston Villa.
Speaking about its possibility, Mbappe said, “It reminds me of last year when everyone assumed there would be a PSG-Real Madrid final. And in the end, we didn’t make it. So I only think about Arsenal, who will be our opponents in the quarterfinals, and my team, Real Madrid.”
“We participate in all competitions. We have the opportunity to achieve something big in this final part of the season, and all our energy should be dedicated to that, to ourselves and the matches ahead. These kinds of projections should be left to the general public. We don’t have time for that,” he added.
Mbappe has returned to the France squad after a long time. He is expected to feature in the first leg of the UEFA National League quarter-final against Croatia on March 21. France coach Didier Deschamps dropped Mbappe from the national team for the group matches against Israel and Italy in November last year.
