Lady Gaga’s Republican dad reveals how her Kamala Harris support affected them after Trump’s election win

Lady Gaga’s father Joe Germanotta opened up about the family tensions that emerged when he voted for Trump while his daughter publicly supported Kamala Harris, especially after Trump won by a landslide.

When asked by Fox News on Wednesday if families split by politics might now ‘heal’ after the election, Germanotta replied, ‘I think so.’

‘Ya know, ever since I came out as a Republican on FOX & Friends, ever since then, you know, it’s been a little dicey at home, but we’ll get past it’ he added.

The New York restaurateur went on to describe himself as an ‘open-minded Republican’ who often supports liberal-leaning social issues.

‘People need to understand that even though I’m a Republican and I have Republican conservative attitudes, that doesn’t mean I don’t support the LGBTQ community, or drag as a form of artistry,’ he added.

Joe publicly endorsed Trump for president in September, while his Grammy-winning daughter appeared at a rally supporting Vice President Kamala Harris on the final day of the campaign.

Lady Gaga joined a high-profile group of performers, including Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, James Taylor, and Ricky Martin, for a moving tribute in support of Harris.

Back in September on Fox, Germanotta said he was backing Trump due to the former president’s policies on the economy and immigration.

He said of Trump and Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris: ‘they are two vastly different people.’

‘One is pure, you know, and he is a patriot, right?’ Germanotta said of Trump. ‘The other’s just going to say whatever she needs to say to get elected.’

Germanotta lamented that his restaurant, Joanne Trattoria, was on track for its best year yet when the COVID-19 pandemic struck.

‘But the real foundation – I’m not voting for people,’ the pop star’s father explained. ‘Yeah, he’s abrasive, OK? But he is a patriot and his policies are there, all right?’

Germanotta said he was a fan of ‘low fuel and food prices’ and ‘low interest rates.’

He called the current border problems an ‘invasion’ – parroting the language Trump uses to describe the influx of illegal immigrants.

‘If you stack them up side-by-side I don’t know what the hell she is talking about, all right?’ Germanotta said. ‘She keeps talking about “opportunity zones,”‘ he said of Harris.

Since Harris took over the top of the Democratic ticket in late July, she’s talked about creating an ‘opportunity economy’ for all Americans.

She’s gotten a number of high-profile celebrity endorsements – including pop stars Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish – but hasn’t yet gotten as assist from Gaga on the campaign trail.

Four years ago, Lady Gaga helped Biden get over the hump with some last-minute campaign events in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Germanotta opened up Joanne Trattoria in 2012, after his daughter became famous, but told The New York Times at the time he could have afforded to open it without the pop star’s help.

Still the restaurant’s website heavily references Lady Gaga – or Stefani. It hosts live music every Saturday and drag shows every Wedneday.
