Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made some major agricultural announcements while presenting Budget 2025 in the Parliament on Saturday.
Here is a list of the major agricultural announcements made by the finance minister.
- The finance minister announced that the loan amount will be increased from 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs under the Kisan Credit Scheme
- She said that PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will be undertaken in partnership with states. The programme will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity and below-average credit parameters and will help 1.7 crore farmers.
- The finance minister announced the creation of the Makhana Board in Bihar to improve the processing, value addition and marketing of Makhana.
- The people who are involved in the production of Makhana will be organised into FPOs. The Board will give hand-holding and training support to Makhana farmers and will work towards ensuring that they enjoy benefits all relevant government schemes.”
- To ensure self-reliance in urea production, the government has reopened three dormant urea plans in the eastern region which will augment urea supply, said FM Sitharaman.
- She said that a urea plant with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metro tonnes will be set up at Namrup in Assam.
- In the agricultural sector, the National Mission For Edible Oil & Seeds will aim at “aatmanirbharta” (self-dependence), said the finance minister.
- She announced that the government will launch a six-year mission to become self-dependent in the sector of pulses.
- The finance minister said that the Central Agencies will procure Tur, Urad, Masur in the next 4 years.
- The government will launch a national mission on high-yielding seeds, she said.
