Maharashta Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will go up against his own nephew Yugendra Pawar in Baramati for the upcoming assembly elections as the NCP (SP) released its first list on Thursday.

Yugendra’s candidature against his uncle is a bold move, considering the pocket borough of the undivided NCP only recently witnessed a family battle — between MP Supriya Sule and Sunetra Pawar, who is Ajit Pawar’s wife. Notably, Sunetra, who polled 5,73,979 votes in the parliamentary constituency in Pune district, lost to her sister-in-law who got 7,32,312 votes.

Yugendra is the son of Ajit’s younger brother Shrinivas. Others in the NCP (SP) list included state chief Jayant Patil (Islampur), Jitendra Awhad (Mumbra-Kalwa), Anil Deshmukh (Katol), Harshvardhan Patil (Indapur) and late RR Patil’s son Rohit Patil who is making a debut (Tasgaon-Kavthemahankal).
