As the Mahayuti alliance is set to form the government in Maharashtra again with Devendra Fadnavis as Chief Minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not ready to compromise on the Home Ministry and is likely to keep it to itself. Meanwhile, sources close to News18 informed that talks regarding portfolio distribution are complete between the three Mahayuti alliance partners — BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.

It has been learnt that the BJP has already made its decision for the Cabinet formation and has selected candidates, while the list of ministers that the other alliance partners want to give is still pending.

Notably, the BJP top brass has also completed the exercise of deciding portfolio allocation to its alliance partners ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to take place on Thursday.

According to sources, the decision was made during a meeting held earlier in the national capital with all three alliance leaders.

Fadnavis To Take Oath As Maharashtra CM

Days after Mahayuti swept the Maharashtra elections, the suspense over the Chief Minister’s face finally ended on Wednesday. At 5.30 pm on Thursday, Devendra Fadnavis will be sworn in as Chief Minister at Mumbai’s historic Azad Maidan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be present for the swearing-in.

While it is confirmed that Ajit Pawar will be taking oath as Deputy CM along with Fadnavis, sources reported that Eknath Shinde will also sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.

Shinde Agrees To Take Oath: Sources

Putting an end to all the suspense, Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday finally accepted the post of deputy to Devendra Fadnavis in the new Maharashtra government, sources said.

Reportedly, Shinde agreed to be the Deputy Chief Minister after Fadnavis along with Shiv Sena leaders met him at his residence, Varsha.

Earlier in the day, Shinde backed Fadnavis as Chief Minister, just like the BJP leader did for him two-and-a-half years ago when he rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray.

“We have staked claim to form the government, oath-taking will happen on Thursday, December 5. 2.5 years back, Devendra Fadnavis said I should be CM; today, I am backing him for the same. We will give full support to the decision taken by PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. You all ran speculative stories even when I went to my village, but we are happy and are forming this government willingly. We are working as a team and do not look down on anyone,” he said.
