Major IPL Rule Changes In 2025, League To Follow ICC Code Of Conduct Regulations: Report

Until 2024, the IPL followed it’s own Code of Conduct, which will now be switched for the ICC’s T20I policies.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) will reportedly adopt the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct (ICC) regulations for all players in the 2025 season. The decision is said to have been taken in the BCCI’s General Council meeting on Sunday.

The report also claimed the tournament will start either on March 21 or 22 while citing a ‘senior GC member’. That’s unlike what the BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told reporters after the meeting on Sunday.

“From now on, the ICC’s sanctioned penalties will be imposed for Level 1, 2 or 3 offenses. Till date, IPL had its own Code of Conduct but going forward, Playing Conditions will be followed as per ICC T20I regulations,” news agency PTI quoted an IPL GC member saying, on conditions of anonymity.

In IPl 2023, as many as 10 Code of Conduct violations were registered. The first was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)’s Harshit Rana in the third match of the season against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

He was seen giving a flying-kiss send-off to SRH’s Mayank Agarwal after taking his wicket, which landed him in trouble. The IPL found him guilty of breaching two Level 1 offenses under Article 2.5, for which he was 60% of his match fees.

Tim David (Mumbai Indians), Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians), Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Sam Curran (Punjab Kings), Rasikh Salam Dar (Delhi Capitals) and Ishan Kishan (Mumbai Indians) all committed Level 1 offenses in subsequent games.

In the 47th match, Harshit was charged with another level 1 offense for his animated celebrations against Delhi Capitals. This time he was charged 100% of his match fees and suspended for KKR’s next match, too.

The flying case became a big talking point of the season. When KKR eventually went on to win the tournament, Harshit, team owner Shahrukh Khan and the rest of the squad members made a point to recreate the celebration. The fast-bowler ended the tournament as the highest uncapped wicket-taker.

Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Ramandeep Singh (KKR) and Shimron Hetmyer (Rajasthan Royals), were the last three players to be found breaching level-one offenses in the season. With a change in the rules, some of these offenses might not be given in 2025.
