Jeremy Doku’s critical assist in Manchester City’s Premier League victory against Wolves at Etihad pushed the Belgian footballer to a remarkable feat in this year’s Premier League. As the winger helped set up Kevin De Bruyne’s match-winning goal for the club, Doku became the first player in the Premier League season to complete 100 dribbles.

The 22-year-old rising star, who has now registered six goals and nine assists across all competitions, is averaging a stellar 6.77 successful dribbles per game in the Premier League this summer. Doku enjoys a gap of 17 points from second-placed Mohammed Kudus (84) in the list of players with the most dribbles. No one has gone past the defenders more number of times than the Belgian, whom Pep Guardiola recalled for the clash with the in-form Wolves.

While De Bruyne’s pivotal strike got its deserved limelight for taking City past the Wolves, Doku was an influential figure behind the triumph with his unmatched tally of 21 progressive actions, 13 box entries, 5 ball recoveries and 3 key passes. The assist he made to De Bruyne for the match’s only goal helped Manchester City move up to the third spot in the Premier League table.

After the game, Doku reflected upon his assist in an interview with the Manchester City club. “I saw him [De Bruyne], he did well because the defenders were closing the front post for [Ilkay] Gundogan,” he said. “I saw him there. That’s something that I’ve worked on. I’m in those positions a lot. I’m critical of myself and I have to do more in those situations.”

“I know today I got an assist, but I think I can do even more. But I’m happy today for the assist. Obviously, we can’t win the Premier League anymore, but we want to try to win every game now and see where we end up. We have a final in the FA Cup. So, game by game, but we are going to prepare well for that as well.”

Doku also expressed delight at providing an assist to De Bruyne, who played an emotional penultimate game for the city at the Etihad Stadium. De Bruyne will be partying ways with the club at the end of the summer. “Yeah of course, luckily I still play with him in the national team,” he said. “Obviously I don’t need to explain how exceptional a player he is. Even today he showed it again. I saw he was free and obviously I like to give an assist to Kevin. So yeah I’m happy for him.”
