When it rains, it pours. And it is hailing losses on the pitch and charges off it for Manchester City, who are now seemingly facing trial for an updated 130 FFP breaches, 15 more than the originally mentioned 115 charges.

A common misconception around the case has been that City are facing 115 charges when the English side have actually been accused of breaching the rules 130 times originally itself.

The extra 15 charges didn’t just appear out of nowhere, either, as it was reported by The Times back in August 2024 that there was an issue with the Premier League’s reporting process at the time.

The confusion is thought to have arisen as some of the charges were listed in relation to certain seasons, but the Premier League have reportedly since adjusted the number to reflect the 130 alleged breaches.

According to BBC figures, the charges against City include 54 alleged breaches for failing to provide accurate financial information between 2009/10 and 2017/18.

A total of 14 charges relate to inaccurate details for player and manager payments during the same period, while the club also faces five charges for failing to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules from 2013-14 to 2017-18.

Seven other breaches concern Premier League PSR rules, while a whopping 35 charges were levied due to City’s failure to cooperate with Premier League investigations between December 2018 and February 2023.

Manchester City’s long-awaited hearing into their FFP breaches had concluded, according to reports on Monday, but a verdict is not to be expected until 2025.

The Daily Mail reported that closing arguments in the case, which opened on September 16 at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre, were made to an independent panel on Friday.

City strongly deny any wrongdoing, but face severe sanctions if found guilty, including potentially being relegated from the Premier League.
