Manchester City are expected to acquire the services of Argentine wonderkid Claudio Echeverri in January next year. A report published by The Mirror claimed that the teenage sensation himself has confirmed that he will join the reigning Premier League champs in January 2025. Echeverri, who was signed 12 months back for £12.5 million from River Plate, was with the Argentine outfit on a year-long loan deal. “I wanted to thank you for the support I have always had since I was a kid, in the club where my videos began to be known, I wanted to thank you for the affection with me and my family, grateful to River, with you, with the club, the people who work at the club,” the talented midfielder said after his final game for River Plate, as per The Mirror.
“It’s something unique, very nice to be here, to play for River when I was so young, at the age of 17, when I was lucky enough to make my debut. Thank you for always being with us, the stadium is full every game and I hope I can return soon. Today I have to say goodbye to the club of my life, the one I joined at a very young age with a lot of dreams to fulfil. River became my second home, the club that formed me not only as a professional but also as a person,” Claudio Echeverri added.
In his final game of the year for River Plate, Claudio Echeverri faced Racing Club on December 15. Echeverri’s arrival will certainly boost Manchester City who have endured a dismal run of form this season. The 18-year-old scored four goals and bagged six assists for River Plate over 2024. But for the Argentine side, it was a difficult campaign this time as they could manage a fifth-place finish in the Primera Division.
Earlier, Manchester City had planned to send Claudio Echeverri on loan to Spanish sister club Girona when he arrives from River Plate in January. But that plan seems to have been scrapped now with Manchester City suffering from several injury crises and a series of poor, on-field performances.
Manchester City currently find themselves placed in seventh position in the Premier League standings. They are now 12 points behind table-toppers Liverpool. Moreover, Manchester City have been successful in winning once in their last 12 fixtures across all competitions.
