Manchester United have endured a poor campaign this season. They are currently placed 13th in the Premier League standings with 29 points from 14 games. Manchester United will reportedly be aiming to improve their attacking lineup for the next season and it has been learnt that they have already finalised a new striker. A report published by the Independent claimed that Manchester United are hopeful that they will be able to hold off competition for Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres to complete “a deal in the summer.” The article went on to suggest that the two clubs share a good relationship and it has “fostered a belief” that the Swedish striker is expected to move in the summer.
Writing in his GIVEMESPORT transfer newsletter, transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano also talked about Manchester United’s possible next signings. “Nothing has been decided yet in terms of names, it’s too early. It’s also important to understand which competition Manchester United will play (in terms of European football) and also to understand the budget. For sure, internally the plan is to bring in a new striker in the summer,” Romano said, as per GIVEMESPORT.
Having previously played under Ruben Amorim at Sporting, Gyokeres is likely the most suitable choice for Manchester United’s attacking unit next season. Having signed for the Portuguese outfit at the start of last season, Gyokeres has already scored 77 goals in 84 appearances. This tally includes six goals in seven matches in the Champions League.
Manchester United made some key signings in the winter transfer window. Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu arrived at Old Trafford for a reported fee of £25 million ($31m/€30m), with an additional £4 million ($5m/€4.8m) in potential add-ons. Defender Ayden Heaven also joined Manchester United from Arsenal. Players like Antony and Marcus Rashford left Manchester United on loan moves during the winter transfer window as Antony joined Real Bets, and Rashford to another Premier League side Aston Villa.
FA Cup holders Manchester United will take on Fulham at Old Trafford having beaten Leicester City 2-1. Manchester United will next face Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday, February 16. Ruben Amorim’s men have so far claimed eight wins so far in this season’s Premier League.
