Speculations over Marcus Rashford’s departure had intensified after he was dropped from the playing squad by Ruben Amorim.
Premier League giants Manchester United have reportedly ‘held talks’ with Napoli over a potential swap deal for Marcus Rashford. The Englishman has not been in the best form this season, struggling to find a regular spot in the club’s playing XI. Amid his struggles at Old Trafford, a fresh report has emerged which suggests that Manchester United contacted the Serie A side over a swap deal for their 27-year-old forward. As per Team Talk, the Red Devils have enquired about Georgian international winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The same report has claimed that club head coach Ruben Amorim has shortlisted the Georgian winger as Rashford’s potential replacement at the club.
Manchester United were initially leaning towards Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to replace Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford. Speculations over Rashford’s departure had intensified after he was dropped from the playing squad by Ruben Amorim. Osimhen is currently competing under Fenerbahce’s banner on a loan deal. The striker seemingly doesn’t have a future with a Serie A side which sparked Manchester United’s interest. However, the fresh report suggests the Red Devils now eye the Nigerian’s teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a potential deal.
Securing a successful deal for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will be a major challenge for Manchester United. They will likely face competition from Premier League leaders Liverpool who are also interested in the Georgian forward. Moreover, the Team Talk report has claimed that a January departure for Kvaratskhelia has been excluded as the Georgian is ‘prioritising’ a contract renewal with the Serie A side. Kvaratskhelia is currently recovering from a knee problem at Napoli. The 23-year-old boasts five goals and three assists in 19 appearances across competitions in the ongoing season.
Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, has struggled with form this season, often finding himself out of the playing squad for Manchester United. The star had not featured on the pitch since mid-December after being left out by Ruben Amorim. He was eventually called up by the coach for the club’s league fixture against Newcastle United on December 31. The Englishman failed to make an impact against the Magpies as his side lost 0-2 at home. He was once again missing from the club’s lineup during their recent 2-2 draw with Liverpool. He was, reportedly, absent due to illness.
Manchester United are next set to face Arsenal in a FA Cup Third Round clash. Given Marcus Rashford’s current form, it is quite unlikely he will make the playing XI for the upcoming clash.
