Manchester United will kick off their title defence at the FA Cup with a big-ticket clash against Arsenal. The third-round fixture will be hosted at the Emirates Stadium on January 12. Being the reigning champions, the Red Devils have been allowed to use a special ball in their FA Cup fixtures this season. Designed by Mitre, the FA Cup Ultimax Pro Winners ball will make its debut in United’s campaign opener in London. Their women’s side will also play this year’s FA Cup with the same ball after becoming the champions last term.

Mitre Sports shared some glimpses of the limited edition ball on X (formerly Twitter). “Something for the winners. “As current holders of Emirates FA Cup 23-24 season, Manchester United will play with this gold limited edition Ultimax Pro match ball in the 3rd round tie against Arsenal on Sunday.” The ball will also be used in the final, only if Ruben Amorim’s side qualifies.

As claimed by Mitre, the Ultimax Pro Winners ball has been created with “Hyperfoam – a high elastic, cushioned foam – to maximise power with every strike and features”. It features “debossed grooves” and will deliver unparalleled “flight consistency at any speed” so that players can “perform at their peak”.

“The ball is FIFA Quality Pro approved, setting the standard for elite play. Constructed with thermally bonded technology, it boasts 32% improved durability compared to its predecessor, while its unbeatable shape retention guarantees reliability throughout the competition,” Mitre has stated, as quoted by TBR Football.

About the initiative, Simon Rowe, Senior Vice President of Mitre & Global Sports Marketing said, “We’re always looking to bring something new and exciting to the game, and the introduction of the Winners’ Balls is a perfect way to celebrate the reigning champions, Manchester United.”

Rowe expects the new ball to add an “extra layer of excitement and prestige” to the iconic FA Cup which has treated fans and players with many “unforgettable moments” over the years.

Manchester United got a huge confidence boost, holding Premier League toppers Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in the last game at Anfield. Ruben Amorim hopes to continue the winning momentum in his first FA Cup fixture as the United manager.
