Marcus Rashford is not ruling out a return to Manchester United at the end of his loan period at Aston Villa, but reports state that it is unlikely he will play for head coach Ruben Amorim.

As per a report by the BBC, Rashford wants to play for a club in the UEFA Champions League next season, which United may still provide if they manage to win the Europa League, but will not make a decision until the end of the season.

Although United may want to keep a player of his quality, his exit was of a sour nature after being exiled by the new head coach.

The 27-year-old Rashford joined Aston Villa on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for around £40 million in the summer.

A 20-year love affair with Manchester United came to an end for Marcus Rashford, as he officially signed for Aston Villa in the January window on loan till the end of the current season after his rift with manager Ruben Amorim.

Since joining Villa, Rashford has found the back of the net on four occasions and provided six assists in the crucial run-in towards the season.

“I am so happy with him. He is performing very well. His adaptation has been quick, and his commitment to the process is really important for us and him. He needs to keep going, and on Saturday, hopefully, he can help again,” said Villa manager Unai Emery after Villa’s defeat against City, where Rashford scored.

Prior to his loan move, Rashford made 15 Premier League appearances for United this season, scoring only thrice across the period, before Amorim gave him the cold shoulder, forcing him to the role of bench-warmer at Old Trafford.

So, after 426 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 138 goals and notching 63 assists, Rashford made his first foray away from Manchester.

As things stand, Villa are currently out of contention for a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season, while United will face Athletic Bilbao in the last four of the UEFA Europa League, with Tottenham up against Norway’s Bodo/Glimt in the other semi-final.

If United fail to win the competition, they will almost certainly miss out on European football entirely next season, in a massive economic blow to Amorim’s hopes of reconstructing his squad in the transfer market.

By contrast, lifting the trophy in Bilbao on May 21 would give United direct passage to the riches of the Champions League next season.
