Martha Stewart is the ultimate expert when it comes to all things in the home – but you might be surprised to learn that there’s one popular décor item that she doesn’t have on hand.
The 83-year-old lifestyle mogul recently revealed that she doesn’t like to use scented candles when she’s at home.
Instead, the Sports Illustrated cover model opts for the real thing.
‘I use all beeswax candles,’ she divulged in a new interview with Allure.
‘We’re a family of natural scent… of flowers, food, that kind of thing,’ she explained.

However, although she only uses beeswax candles, she’s definitely still making them look beautiful.
‘I have gorgeous old brass candlesticks and these big antique cut glass hurricanes with candles in them,’ she told the outlet.
Perhaps it may seem self-explanatory, but beeswax candles are exactly what they sound like – candles made from a special kind of wax that is made from honey bees.
According to The Scottish Bee Company, beeswax candles are ‘non-toxic’ and ‘chemical free,’ and made of natural materials.
They can even fill your home with a light scent, according to Martha Stewart’s own website, as they have a naturally sweet smell.
Stewart also spoke to House Beautiful about her candle opinions, and explained that she liked to use them to decorate her tablescapes.
And, with Thanksgiving and the holidays coming up, who better to listen to than the decoration queen herself?
‘I like colors that kind of blend into the background when they’re on your table, but I want to buy candles that are very high quality and good wax and unscented,’ she told House Beautiful.

She also noted that she liked the ‘honeycomb tall taper’ candles.
‘It’s all about the light for me,’ the star admitted to the outlet.
It comes after Stewart was forced to clap back at the ‘harsh judgment’ she received after posting photos of her newly decorated living room inside her Maine home.
Alongside a photo of the room, Stewart penned on her personal Instagram page, ‘I rarely read all the comments that come in after I post but because I was so happy at the transformation of my Maine living room.
‘I did go through many of the comments and was surprised at the harsh judgment so many displayed!!!’
She added, ‘I and my Maine helpers spent three hours moving out the old furniture and putting in the new. We were pleased that the pieces actually fit the room and were proportionate to the large size of the space.’
