Melbourne Airport delays as fog grounds departures – Qantas and Virgin impacted

A blanket of fog across Melbourne has sparked hour-long delays at the airport and the cancellation of over two dozen flights.

Travellers are being advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates after 29 flights out of Melbourne Airport were cancelled on Tuesday morning.

More cancellations are likely, with the thick fog hampering visibility.

A Melbourne Airport spokesperson said fog was ‘continuing to impact operations’, but there were minimal delays.

‘Due to heavy fog, Melbourne Airport is currently in low visibility operations resulting in delays of approximately 30-60 minutes for arriving aircraft,’ a statement read.

‘Flights departing for Melbourne Airport were instructed to hold earlier this morning. However, conditions have now improved, and flights have recommenced.

‘There are currently minimal delays to departing aircraft, but we will monitor conditions throughout the rest of the day.’

The fog was expected to lift by 10am.
