Messi was restricted to the sidelines for the crucial game against the Liga MX club following an injury he sustained in the Heron’s previous outing in the tournament.
Ruvalcaba put his side ahead in the 34th minute of the game to give the Mexican side a surprise lead, but Miami midfielder De Paul restored parity in the 45th minute with his first goal for the Florida-based club since joining them last week as the sides went into the break with nothing between them.

Miami were afforded an opportunity to inch ahead in the game around the hour mark as they were handed a spot kick and Uruguyan striker Suarez made no mistake as he put the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1 to his side.
Miami wrapped up the game and put the result beyond any doubt with Allende’s 69th minute strike as the Mexican side, who had once led the game, found the wind taken out of their sails.
Messi led Miami to the Leagues Cup title in 2023 after joining the Herons and has since scored a league-best 18 goals in MLS matches this season.
Messi suffered a minor muscle injury in his upper right leg during Miami’s victory over Necaxa in their last game on Saturday. He has two weeks to recover before the quarter-finals. Miami’s next MLS match is scheduled for Sunday against Orlando.
