Microsoft says Recall is now an opt-in feature and you can delete it too
Microsoft was forced to pause the AI feature after a major security loophole was discovered which could be a privacy concern for many.
Microsoft says its new AI feature called Recall is no longer a security nightmare, and is ready to be relaunched on the Windows PCs.
We all know that Recall operates purely on the device and does not send any of the data to the cloud for processing. The AI tool will help people find items, files and even their search activity on the PC itself. It also pointed out that Recall has a photographic memory of your virtual activity on the Windows PC.
Windows Recall AI Feature Changes: What Can Users Expect
The biggest change with Recall launching next month will be related to it being an opt-in feature, and extra security provided by Windows Hello for user authentication to capture the activities. To make things further secure, Recall AI will not capture confidential details like passwords, credit card numbers and even customise the apps the AI feature can work on.
The company has also added encryption standards to Recall which will be a definite boost for millions to try out the feature, and they will have the option to uninstall Recall AI altogether from their PC, which was recently called a bug but it seems it is a feature after all.
These new changes are pivotal for the feature to become less concerning for your privacy. Earlier this year, the company showcased how Windows 11 and its AI tech can capture screenshots of your activities to help you trace back in the history of files, websites or apps you have opened.
Microsoft even claimed that the Recall feature has been developed with your security and privacy in mind. But a security researcher pointed out that the data accessed through Recall and stored on the Windows 11 PC is readable when the person signs into their Microsoft account.
The new-look Recall AI will be rolling out to Copilot Plus PCs via the Windows 11 insider build in the coming weeks and the full release is expected sometime in November.
