Star Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is playing for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm pacer led the bowling attack for the Axar Patel-led side on Thursday (April 10) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and conceded 35 runs in his quota of three overs.
During the third over of RCB’s innings, he was hammered for 30 runs by Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, and that entered his name in an unwanted list. He became only the second Delhi Capitals bowler in IPL history to concede 30 or more runs in an over.
South African pacer Anrich Nortje, who is part of KKR in IPL 2025, was the first bowler to concede 30+ runs in an over for the Delhi-based franchise. The right-arm pacer was hammered for 32 runs in the last over last year by Mumbai Indians all-rounder Romario Shepherd during the match played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
On Thursday, Salt welcomed Starc with a six on the first ball of his second over of the match and then hammered three fours in a row. The third of which came on a no ball. On the free hit, the England wicketkeeper-batter hit another six and then took a single on the fifth ball. On the last ball, Virat Kohli was on strike, and he also scored a four to add a total of 30 runs to RCB’s total.
Starc was DC’s top performer with the ball in the first matches of IPL 2025, but against the Rajat Patidar-led side, he looked totally off colour. For the first time in four matches he was not able to take any wickets for Axar Patel & Co., but despite that DC was able to restrict the home team to 163 for 7.
The target of 164 runs in Bengaluru wasn’t a big one to chase down, but it became a tough task when DC were reduced to 30 for 3 in 4.3 overs. KL Rahul then joined hands with Axar to add 28 runs for the fourth wicket, and after his dismissal, stitched a 111-run unbeaten stand for the fifth wicket with Tristan Stubbs (38 from 23). During his stay at the crease on Thursday, Rahul faced 53 balls and, with the help of 7 fours and 6 sixes, scored 93 runs.
