Teenage Indian sensation Trisha Gongadi, who scripted history with her maiden century in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, opened up on her trying to emulate her idol legendary Indian cricketer Mithali Raj.

Trisha made an unbeaten 110 runs from just 53 deliveries in India’s Super Six game against Scotland as she became the first player to breach the triple-figure mark in the age category tournament.

“I’ve grown up watching Mithali Di, and I really like how she paced her innings,” Trisha said.

“I’ve always wanted to do the same. She’s always been my idol,” she added.

Her century helped India post a total of 208 runs before bundling out the Scottish women for 58 tuns to secure a 150-run triumph.

“Yes, it’s really special for me. I wanted to do this in the first World Cup match, but I got another opportunity,” she said.

“Against Scotland, although we lost the toss, I always wanted to bat first so that we could play the full 20 overs and score big,” the batter added.

She revealed that she did not keep an exact track of her run count during her ton and realised she had breached the milestone when her teammates displayed their appreciation of her.

“I only realised I scored a hundred when the entire team started cheering for me. I usually don’t look at the scoreboard or count my runs. So, yeah, it was really special,” she added.

Her father was in attendance to witness his daughter’s incredible feat and Trisha recollected how special it was for her to perform with her biggest supporter in the stands.

“My father is my biggest supporter, so scoring a hundred in a U-19 World Cup in front of him is truly special,” she said.

“He comes to see all my domestic matches, but for the first match here, he somehow missed it,” she revealed.

“However, he made sure to be at the next match because he doesn’t want to miss a single innings,” Trisha said.

“So, I want to dedicate this hundred to him as well as to my mother, as I don’t think it would have been possible without her,” she concluded.
