Mohammedan Sporting Club and Andrey Chernyshov have come to an agreement to continue as head coach of the Indian Super League (ISL) club, just a day after the Russian manager took to social media to step down for not getting paid for three months.
Chernyshov, who had helped Mohammedan SC get promotion to the ISL in his stint as head coach, had taken to social media on Wednesday to announce his departure from the club, stating that he was “forced” into taking the “most difficult and sad decision in my coaching career”.
Mohammedan SC confirmed in a statement that Andrey Chernyshov has decided to reconsider stepping down.
“This positive development follows a constructive and heartfelt discussion with Shrachi Sports and BunkerHill, the club’s primary investors. This outcome is largely due to the impactful engagement of Mr. Dipak Singh from BunkerHill, whose involvement has played a significant role in Coach Chernyshov to rethink his decision about quitting the club. Chernyshov has been instrumental in shaping MSC’s ISL campaign, and his dedication to the team’s growth has been invaluable. We deeply appreciate his contributions and sincerely hope that he will continue to guide MSC toward greater success, furthering the development of both the club and its players,” MSC said in a statement.
Mohammedan SC’s primary investors – Shrachi Sports and BunkerHill – released a statement, to announce that the Kolkata club has started issuing their promised shares in the club, promising the impasse over non-payment of salaries of players and staff too will be resolved.
“We are also pleased to share that substantial progress has been made regarding the issuance of shares to the investors. A preliminary understanding has been reached between the club and its principal investors, marking an important step forward in this matter. The legal teams of all parties involved are actively collaborating to finalize this process, and we are confident that this issue will be resolved promptly,” the statement added.
“Regarding the outstanding dues of the team and its staff, we want to assure all concerned that the welfare of our players, staff, and supporters remains our highest priority. We are fully committed to resolving this matter at the earliest opportunity. We anticipate that once the share issuance matter is concluded, the dues will be cleared
without further delay.”
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the players, coaching staff, and support personnel of MSC for their unwavering commitment during this challenging period. We kindly request their continued support as we navigate these difficulties together. We are confident that, despite these challenges, the future holds promising prospects for MSC, and we look forward to an enduring and successful partnership with the team and staff moving forward,” the statements added.
Mohammedan SC’s next game in the ISL is the Kolkata derby at home against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on Feburary 1.
