A heated dispute has broken out in one of Sydney’s wealthiest suburbs after a neighbour complained about a wild Halloween party held at a rundown mansion slated for redevelopment.
The five-bedroom property in Mosman, which sold to developers for $8million in June last year, boasts a sweeping rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Balmoral and Manly beaches.
But, according to a neighbour, the mansion has since turned into a ‘frat house’ after being rented out while developers finalise its future.
Ahead of the Halloween celebration held on Saturday, those living in the ‘frat house’ distributed notices to nearby homes, warning neighbours of the upcoming event.
‘We are writing to notify that we will be hosting a gathering this evening in celebration of Halloween,’ the note said.
The letter promised that ‘noise and disruptions’ would be kept within reason out of respect for the surrounding community’ and acknowledged the potential inconvenience.
‘The police are aware of this event.
‘We understand that residing next to a house that hosts an event can be disruptive, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.’
Despite this reassurance, the party continued well past midnight and finally wrapped up at about 2.30am, a neighbour claimed.
‘(It’s) when an old house sells for $8million and becomes a frat house while developers decide what to do with it,’ the frustrated resident said.

The home, built in 1981, was listed for sale for the first time in June 2023 and described as an ‘exceptionally rare opportunity’ to build in an ‘idyllic Balmoral setting’.
‘It’s the quintessential setting for a family lifestyle where a morning swim and a stroll along the sands of Balmoral Beach is only 130m away,’ the listing reads.
A renovated home on the same street sold for an eye-whopping $10.4million in August this year.
