As Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, the adorable sight of Vice President JD Vance with his wife Usha Vance and their three children managed to steal the spotlight during the inauguration parade on Monday.
JD Vance was accompanied by his Indian-origin Usha Chilukuri and their three children Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 3, as he took oath as the 50th US Vice-President. Mirabel had then made the world go ‘aww’ as she was seen sucking her thumb while being carried by her mother as her father was being sworn in.
Later on, during Trump’s inauguration parade, Vance was seen in a chat when one of the VP’s children came and played with his parents’ hair. While JD Vance played along and continued his conversation with Trump, Usha Vance appeared to reprimand him with a smile as they were the centre of attention in the parade.
The adorable video quickly went viral, with people relating their own experiences with children. “Media spent months trying to convince us how this guy was weird- literally the most relatable family in Washington,” said an individual on X.
“I guess Usha and JD are much nicer parents than me if their kid can do that in front of their boss. Let alone on a national TV…… lol. Kudos for their patience with their kids 🙂 they seem to be nicer and more patient with their kids than many of us!” another user commented.
Another netizen joked, “Like how JD is playful with the hair pat because he can just brush it back in place whereas Usha is stressed because her hair is styled and the kid could seriously mess it up but she has to be gracious and try not to show it.”

On Inauguration Day, Usha Vance embraced a soft and sophisticated look, stepping out in a custom-designed, soft pink cashmere coat with a coordinating scarf wrap and a tea-length dress, all by Oscar de la Renta. The designer described the ensemble as “an ongoing celebration of American history and tradition” in a social media post.
As she became the first Indian-origin Second Lady of the US, Usha Vance won hearts on social media as she proudly watched her husband take the oath of office while holding their daughter.
Usha Chilukuri Vance is a Yale-educated lawyer, who traces her roots to Andhra Pradesh and brings a blend of Indian culture and impressive credentials to American politics.
She worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson, a prestigious law firm and played a key role in her husband’s rise to national prominence, helping him organise his ideas about the social decline in rural White America, which formed the foundation of his 2016 bestseller ‘Hillbilly Elegy’. She left the firm when JD Vance secured the vice-presidential nomination.
Addressing the crowd, Trump heaped praise on JD Vance for his re-election and said that he had endorsed him for Senate campaign for Ohio. “I have watched JD over a period of time. I endorsed him in Ohio. He was a great senator and a very, very smart one. The only one smarter is his wife,” Trump said, eliciting laughs.
