The greying of hair with age is a natural process, though many find it undesirable as it can impact the confidence and personality of working individuals. Many people use chemical-based hair dyes to dye their hair, which provide quick results but can lead to hair loss and fading over time.

In such cases, an easy and affordable ayurvedic method not only darkens hair naturally but also keeps it healthy.

Ayurvedic Method For Black Hair

Ayurvedic expert Dr Balkrishna told Local18 that household ingredients like amla, liquorice, tea leaves, coffee, and curry leaves can effectively darken hair. These natural ingredients help not only with blackening hair but also with strengthening and maintaining its health. The tannins in tea leaves, in particular, contribute to colouring the hair. This mixture is completely natural and safe from other chemical dyes.

How to Make an Ayurvedic Hair Dye Using Tea Leaves?

Dr Balkrishna recommends preparing a hair-darkening mixture using curry leaves, liquorice, amla, coffee powder, and tea leaves.

  • Start by adding three tablespoons of tea leaves to three cups of water and boil on a low flame.
  • When the water reduces to half, strain and cool it.
  • Add 50 grams of amla powder, 25 grams of liquorice powder, and 10 grams each of curry leaves powder and coffee powder, then mix well.
  • Place this mixture in an iron vessel overnight.
  • The next day, apply the mixture thoroughly to your hair and leave it for 3 to 4 hours to dry.
  • Rinse with plain water (avoid shampooing at this stage).

Benefits Of The Mixture

According to Dr Balkrishna, the combination of tea leaves, amla, liquorice, and curry leaves naturally darkens hair without using chemicals, thus posing no harm to hair health. This mixture strengthens hair roots, reducing hair fall. The antioxidants in tea leaves add shine to the hair while keeping it healthy. Unlike chemical dyes, this natural remedy promotes long-lasting black, thick, and strong hair, making it an effective and healthier alternative for maintaining hair colour and health.

Drawbacks of Chemical Hair Dyes

Dr Balkrishna also mentions that chemical hair dyes can lead to allergies, dryness, itching, and rashes in some people. Additionally, continued use of these dyes may cause naturally black hair to turn white over time.
