US President Donald Trump warmly welcomed PM Narendra Modi at the White House, praised his leadership, announced Mumbai blasts mastermind Tahawwur Rana’s extradition, and addressed India’s tariff concerns.

“We missed you a lot” – with these words and a warm hug, US President Donald Trump met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House in Washington DC on Thursday. The camaraderie and friendship between both the leaders was evident.
This was also seen when President Trump presented his book ‘Our Journey Together’ to PM Modi, in which he wrote – “Mr Prime Minister, you are great.” President Trump also pulled a chair for PM Modi, showcasing their strong bond, government sources said. India is also reading significantly into the words of Trump that herald a brighter future of diplomatic relationship and a close partnership in Trump’s tenure till 2029.
“He is doing really a great job in India. Everybody talks about him. He’s doing a really fantastic job. He’s a great leader,” Trump said about Modi. He also said he was thrilled to welcome “my friend” Modi and called the PM a “special man”. Trump went on to say that PM Modi has been a friend for a long time. “He is a much tougher negotiator than me, and he is a much better negotiator than me. There is not even a contest,” Trump said.
Trump also showed a lot of consideration towards India’s interests. Highlighting the issues concerning India the most, President Trump spoke about radical Islamic terrorism and said they will fight it together.
In a major development, Trump announced the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai blasts mastermind Tahawwur Rana to India from the dais. Citing continued cooperation, Trump said, “We are giving a violent man to India, and assured that more action will follow. We will work with India on crime.”
On the tariff issue, Trump displayed a softer side for India and said that it is not India alone that is responsible. This is seen as a major statement by Trump when it comes to India’s concerns on the issue.
