A murder investigation has been launched after a 45-year-old man was shot dead in London.
Police were called to reports of gunshots on Dynevor Road, Hackney, just after midnight this morning.
Officers arrived to find a man with serious gunshot injuries, before he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination are now set to take place.
A road closure from Amhurst Road to Kynaston Avenue is in place following the shooting, affecting traffic heading towards Dalston and Finsbury Park.
Officers are currently stationed in the area outside Sainsbury’s and Stoke Newington Methodist Church.
Traffic is currently light but there is a slight build-up on Rectory Road which runs adjacent to the High Street. The 67, 76, 149, 243 and 276 buses are currently under diversion.

Detective Chief Superintendent Brittany Clarke, who leads policing for the area, said: ‘Our team of detectives and forensic specialists are working at pace to establish the full circumstances that led to the tragic death of this man.
‘We understand this incident will cause concern within the Stoke Newington community, however we do believe this to be an isolated incident at this stage of the investigation with no wider risk to the general public.
‘Residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the area, along with a crime scene, as we carry out our enquiries. We thank them for their patience and co-operation at this time.
‘We urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information that could assist us, to come forward as soon as possible.’
Liam Davis, Green Party councillor for Stoke Newington, said: ‘Police have launched an investigation after a man was shot in Stoke Newington last night. My thoughts are with him and all those affected. Incidents like this are always deeply upsetting.’
