Former Everton manager Sean Dyche issued a touching statement after he parted ways with the Liverpudlian club following the takeover of ownership by the Friedkin Group, ahead of the side’s FA Cup clash against Peterborough last week.
The Englishman who took over the helm at Goodison Park in January 2023, after a decade at Burnley, played a crucial role in helping the Toffees stay up in the Premier League in a volatile 2022-23 season which saw Everton barely escape relegation.
He also helped the club survive the drop despite an eight-point deduction on their tally due to financial irregularities and a breach of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules.
“It was an honour to manage Everton, a football club with a significant heritage and an enormous following in Liverpool and all over the world, through one of its toughest periods in its history,” Dyche said.
“Despite the challenges we faced, I wanted to ensure that the club’s narrative was focused on the positive direction it will take in the future and that the team could focus on competing in the Premier League in the present,” he added.
Everton appointed another former coach, David Moyes, to take over the reins from Dyche. The Scot enjoyed an iconic stint with the Toffees between 2002 and 2013 previously.
Dyche expressed his admiration for Moyes and wished the best for everyone involved with the club the very best going forward.
“David is a manager who I have great respect for and I believe he and his staff will help to push the club forward again and build on the stable footing we have implemented in the past two years,” Dyche added.
“I wish everyone well going forwards including the new owners, who I hope will take the club to the next level and deliver the success which every Evertonian wants,” the 53-year-old said.
“My part as a custodian has been played and I will forever take great pride in that,” the Englishman concluded.
