Shanto will lead Bangladesh in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which is set to start on June 17 at Galle International Stadium.

Najmul Hossain Shanto has been retained as Bangladesh’s Test captain for one more year, and the 26-year-old left-handed batter will lead the Tigers in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka for which the squad was announced on Wednesday (June 4).
The first Test of the two-match away series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be played at Galle International Stadium from June 17 to 21, and Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club will host the second red-ball match from June 25 to 29.
Shanto, who has 1889 runs to his name in 35 Tests played so far, will lead the 16-member Test team in Sri Lanka.
“Top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has been retained as Bangladesh’s Test captain for another year, continuing in the leadership role he assumed in 2024. All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz also continues as the vice-captain, maintaining the leadership pairing that led the team in the previous season,” BCB said in a statement.
Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das is back in Bangladesh’s Test squad for the first series of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle after missing the last series due to injury. Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain, who last represented Bangladesh in July 2023, is also back along with left-arm spinner Hasan Murad and right-arm pacer Nahid Rana.
Meanwhile, left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy have been dropped from the squad.

In the all-format tour of Sri Lanka, apart from the two Tests, Bangladesh will play three ODIs and as many T20I matches. The first two ODIs and the third T20I will be played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will host the third ODI on July 8 along with the first two T20I matches.
