Nehal Wadhera came out to bat at No. 4 for Punjab Kings on Tuesday (April 1) in the IPL 2025 match played against Lucknow Super Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow and scored 43 runs from just 25 balls. He added 67 runs for the third wicket with captain Shreyas Iyer (52 runs from 30 balls) to help PBKS chase down the target of 172 runs in 16.2 overs and win the match by 8 wickets.
During his stay at the crease, the left-handed batter from Ludhiana hammered three fours and four sixes.
After playing an impactful debut for Punjab Kings on Tuesday, Nehal reserved big praise for PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting. According to him, Ponting is one of the best coaches he has worked under.
“He (Ponting) is one of the best coaches I have ever worked under. I have never heard any negative talk from his mouth, and that’s the best thing about him. He just talks positive, and when a coach gives you such positive remarks, that automatically boosts your confidence,” Wadhera said during the post-match interaction.
The 24-year-old cricketer, who has also played for Mumbai Indians in the world’s richest franchise cricket league, also praised PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer and said he is leading the side very well.
“Shreyas bhai and everyone played really well; our bowlers bowled well, and the way Prabhsimran batted was really good too. The way Shreyas batted was remarkable. All credit goes to the way he is captaining us and also the way he is boosting our confidence. The way he told me to play my natural game and go with the flow of the game, it’s great.”
For the second match in a row, Iyer top-scored for Punjab Kings. He came out to bat at No. 3 in the 172-run chase, and with the help of three fours and four sixes, scored 52 runs from just 30 balls. He finished the match by hitting Abdul Samad for a big six on the second ball of the 17th over of the run chase.
