The excitement for Squid Game Season 2 is at an all-time high as fans finally witnessed the much-anticipated continuation of the show after a lengthy three-year wait. Released on December 26, 2024, Season 2 brought back the twisted thrills and games that made the series a global sensation. But there is great news for fans: the wait for Season 3 will not be nearly as long. Netflix has already teased the next chapter by unveiling the first poster for Season 3, confirming its release this year.
What caught everyone’s attention in the new teaser poster was not the return of familiar faces like Seong Gi-hun or the Front Man but Young-hee of the Red Light-Green Light game, who is an infamous motion-sensor doll known for the horrifying elimination of countless players in Seasons 1 and 2. This time, she is joined by her male counterpart, Cheol-su, who had a brief mid-credits appearance in Season 2. The poster shows him dressed in players’ uniform.
“Yeonghee and Cheol Soo. The game of hearts never ends. Squid Game Season 3, released in 2025. Only on Netflix,” the caption shared with teaser reads.
Season 2 reintroduced Lee Jung-Jae as Seong Gi-hun, who reenters the deadly games to uncover the masterminds behind them and put an end to their brutal operation. The Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, shocked fans by returning as a contestant himself, entering the game as number 001. The season saw Gi-hun and the Front Man’s paths collide in unexpected ways with their rivalry taking a dark and dramatic turn. With just seven episodes, the season ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving fans desperate for answers. Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased that the high-stakes battle between Gi-hun and the Front Man will continue to escalate in Season 3.
The new season also welcomed a host of new cast members including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon and Yang Dong-geun, as well as Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won and Won Ji-an.
Meanwhile, Netflix revealed that Season 2 has shattered records, amassing 68 million views in its premiere week and overtaking Wednesday’s previous record of 50.1 million views.
