Netflix fans have raved over a ‘masterpiece’ political thriller that has a whopping Rotten Tomatoes score.

The highly-praised series, Designated Survivor, was created by American screenwriter David Guggenheim.

It follows low-level Government official Tom Kirkman who abruptly finds himself becoming the President of America after an attack on Washington kills the top politicians and leaves him in charge.

The three series of Designated Survivor stars Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland, Maggie Q and Kal Penn.

It has received impressive reviews from viewers, some of whom have ‘rewatched it for the third time.’

Adding to the buzz, the political thriller also has an impressive overall Rotten Tomatoes score of 71%, with the first season achieving 87% alone.

Some fans have taken to social media to share their verdict on the series and one posted on X: ‘This show is a masterpiece. @RealKiefer is the true depiction of range.

However, not everyone is a fan of the show and one person wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: ‘First two seasons were great. Season 3 is truly awful.’; ‘It was cringe since 1st season, but MY GOD BY 3RD SEASON IT BECAME UNBEARABLE TO WATCH. 1 word to describe it – cringe.’

It comes after fans raved over another thriller on Netflix as it rocketed up the charts eight years on from its TV debut. 

The Irish-British series Riviera, which first aired in 2017, has gained traction on Netflix, currently securing the seventh spot among the streaming platform’s top rated shows.

It was created by The Butcher Boy’s Neil Jordan and stars Julia Stiles as American art curator Georgina Clios.

Set in the French Riviera, Georgina finds herself immersed in a world of ‘lies, double-dealing and crime’.

And she is on a mission to uncover the truth about her husband Constantine, played by Anthony La Pagila, and his death, which was caused by a yacht accident.

It’s first release was a huge hit with viewers as the first season secured 2.3million viewers per episode.

The show, which also became Sky’s most successful original series, gained so much hype on its release that The Guardian dubbed it ‘unmissable’.
