Ruben Amorim seems to have already started chalking out his plans to rebuild the Manchester United squad. The Portuguese manager has succeeded Erik Ten Hag to take over the helm at Old Trafford. With a new boss in charge, Manchester United are expected to complete a few signings in the upcoming January transfer window.
According to a report by Caught Offside, the Premier League club has kept its eyes on Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The £90 million-rated winger has also attracted interest from some other European outfits including Liverpool.
Amorim is reportedly keen to bring Kvaratskhelia to his squad during the winter transfer. The Georgian international has been seen as a replacement for Antony.
Amorim recognises Kvaratskhelia as a “special talent” who is capable of “lighting up Old Trafford,” the Caught Offside report stated.
Kvaratskhelia is currently regarded as one of the best wingers in the world. While operating along the left flank, the 23-year-old has demonstrated his scoring ability in several matches for Napoli. He has already recorded 30 goals and 28 assists in 101 games across all competitions since joining the Italian club in 2022.
Amorim believes Kvaratskhelia, with his speed and versatility, can be a major weapon for his squad. The player’s current contract with Napoli is set to expire in 2027. The Serie A giants reportedly want to extend his stay at San Paolo. They currently value Kvaratskhelia at £90 million and Amorim has no issue with the hefty price tag.
Both parties may sit together soon to discuss the deal. With Amorim pressing the club officials to sign Kvaratskhelia, Manchester United are expected to pay the release clause to take him on board. The newly appointed manager sees Kvaratskhelia as the one who can elevate the attack with his creativity and play-making skills.
The Red Devils parted ways with Ten Hag following a Premier League defeat to West Ham United. Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken over as an interim coach and will remain in the position until the arrival of Amorim. Under Van Nistelrooy, United has beaten Leicester City 5-2 in the Carabao Cup and played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the league.
