Longtime NHL star Logan Couture has medically been forced into retirement at 36 due to a pelvic disease.
The Sharks have called a press conference for today to announce the news as the NHL hits the final week of its regular season.
Couture spent his entire NHL career with the San Jose Sharks and is one of the most prolific goal-scorers in franchise history.
The pelvic disease, osteitis pubis, is inflammation in the joint between your left and right pubic bones that causes pain and swelling in your groin or lower abdomen, per the Cleveland Clinic.
The clinic also states the disease affects ‘people who are especially active or athletes who use their core and hips to twist, kick or suddenly change direction’, with hockey listed among the most common sports where it occurs.
Couture only played in six games last season and did not play for a single second during the 2024-25 campaign.

Couture was a first-round draft pick of the Sharks in 2007, with his 8-year, $64million contract expiring in two years. He is owed $13million over the next two seasons.
Couture is one of the most iconic Sharks of all-time, especially in the playoffs, where he had 101 points, including 48 goals, in 116 postseason games.
He was integral to the San Jose team that reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 2016, when it lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Couture ends his career with 701 points, fourth all-time in San Jose history.
The Canadian only trails Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, and Joe Pavelski in franchise history.
