‘No Merit In Rumours’: Bengaluru FC Debunk Cyrus Abhilash’s Links With Premier League Side Brighton

Bengaluru FC’s statement comes days after Brighton were fined £20,000 by the Premier League for breaching the youth development rules. It was even stated that the club would face a six-month ban from registering any academy players currently or previously registered with another side.

Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC has debunked rumours surrounding their U-15 academy player Cyrus Abhilash’s and Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Sharing a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Bengaluru FC conveyed that “there is no merit” in rumours.

“While we’re really proud of our Youth Development Programme and its success over the years, there is no merit in rumours surrounding BFC U15 Academy player Cyrus Abhilash’s links with Brighton and Hove Albion. The club will continue to be the only official source of any such information regarding any of our players,” read the post.

Reports claimed that impressed by Abhilash’s performances, Brighton are interested in offering a contract to the young Indian footballer. “In a wild move, 15 year old Cyrus Abhilash will be signed by Brighton to play for the academy! The young striker has impressed for the Bengaluru U18s and Brighton are willing to give him a contract. A dream for the budding Indian and his family,” read a viral post shared on X.

Bengaluru FC’s statement comes days after Brighton were fined £20,000 by the Premier League for breaching the youth development rules. It was even stated that the club would face a six-month ban (suspended for one year) from registering any academy players currently or previously registered with another side.

“The League is grateful for the proactive and collaborative approach adopted by the Club, which has resulted in significant mitigation being applied to the sanction. Upon becoming aware of the full circumstances, the Club disclosed the breach to the League, conducted an internal investigation and acted in a transparent and cooperative manner at every point,” the Premier League said in a statement.

“The suspended registrations ban commenced on 28 November 2024,” the statement further added.

Brighton currently occupy the ninth spot in the Premier League standings. They have so far collected 24 points from 16 games in this season’s Premier League. They have emerged victorious on six occasions in this season’s Premier League campaign.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC have had an impressive ISL journey so far this time. With 24 points from 12 games, Bengaluru FC now claim the second spot in the ISL standings.
