Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur could be undergoing a notable change in how they are addressed. According to multiple media reports, a leaked email has revealed that the London club has requested TV broadcasters to refer to them by their full name, “Tottenham Hotspur,” or simply as “Spurs.”

As reported by The Athletic, an email titled Tottenham Hotspur Naming Update has been circulated, stating, “Tottenham Hotspur has provided clarification regarding the club’s name. They have requested that the club be primarily known as Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs being the preferred short version. The club have requested that they are not referred to as Tottenham.”

Meanwhile, The Mirror noted that during Sky Sports’ coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s recent victory against Manchester United, manager Ange Postecoglou was referred to as the Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach. Additionally, the lineup graphic displayed the name “Spurs,” aligning with the club’s reported preference.

It is being learnt that the club are probably eager to focus on the fact that they’re the only ‘Hotspur’ in the English football circuit. As per reports, a paragraph in Tottenham Hotspur’s Brand Playbook reads, “In a world full of Uniteds, Citys and Rovers, there is only one Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur. When referring to the team or the brand, please use ‘Tottenham Hotspur’, ‘Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’ or ‘THFC’. Never refer to our Club as ‘Tottenham’, ‘Tottenham Hotspur FC’ or ‘TH’.”

The latest change did not adversely impact Tottenham Hotspur’s performance on the field, with the Premier League side emerging victorious in their last two games. James Maddison scored a vital goal for Tottenham Hotspur to guide his side to a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Premier League.

In their next match, Tottenham Hotspur claimed a resounding 4-1 away win against Ipswich Town in the Premier League. Brennan Johnson struck a brace while Djed Spence and Dejan Kulusevski scored a goal each to earn a convincing victory for Tottenham Hotspur.

Having played 26 matches, so far in the Premier League, 12th-placed Tottenham Hotspur has collected 33 points. They have recorded 10 wins in this Premier League campaign till now. In their next match, Ange Postecoglou’s men will play against Manchester City in the Premier League.
