Kejriwal said that the AAP workers are being subjected to “harassment” by the BJP workers and Delhi Police.
The Delhi Election Commission on Sunday responded to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations regarding the intimidation and harassment of AAP workers during the campaigning ahead of the assembly polls, saying that there are no written complaints being registered of the mentioned allegations.
“District Election Officer (DEO), New Delhi stated that regarding allegations against BJP workers for intimidating and harassing AAP volunteers in New Delhi Assembly Constituency, as reported by police as well as on perusal of available records in his office, no written complaints could be traced in most of the cases. However, it has also been informed that whenever written complaints are received from any political party citing such allegations, all such matters are investigated invariably in accordance with laws & ECI norms and appropriate action as per ECI norms is either initiated or recommended in all such cases,” the Poll Body said in its statement.
The Delhi Poll Body further stated that the necessary action was taken by the law authorities in all the cases regarding specific complaints as mentioned by Kejriwal.
“As far as the issue of Independent Observer is concerned, it is to inform that General Observers, Expenditure Observers and Police Observers have already been deployed for all Constituencies including New Delhi Constituency,” the Poll Body said.
Kejriwal had demanded the Election Commission to appoint independent observers in the New Delhi constituency where he is contesting.
Further Delhi Police also assured Kejriwal of strict action after the latter complained of men encircling AAP’s campaign van and tearing down the party’s posters on Sunday.
The New Delhi DCP, responding to Kejriwal’s post, claimed that “no PCR call or complaint was received in police station”. The top cop assured strict legal action once the formal complaint was registered.
