Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has said that Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan will finish as the highest run-getter in IPL 2025, backing the 23-year-old from Tamil Nadu to put up an inspiring performance for his team.

Jaffer also predicted Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh to win the Purple Cap, with the young duo scheduled to face each other when Gujarat take on PBKS on March 25.

Arshdeep had his most prolific individual campaign during IPL 2024. He picked up 19 wickets at an average of 26.58 although he was a tad bit expensive.

“IPL is almost here. Drop your orange cap and purple cap predictions below. I’m leaning towards Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep,” Jaffer tweeted on Saturday morning.

Both the orange and purple caps have been won by the Indians over the last two seasons. Ace India batter Virat Kohli and Harshal Patel were the winners respectively in IPL 2024, while Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami bagged the honours in IPL 2023, as Gujarat finished runners-up.

England batter Jos Buttler won the orange cap in IPL 2022 while Kagiso Rabada won the Purple cap in IPL 2020.

Despite a small role at the top of the order in IPL 2024, Sudharsan might reprise his No. 3 role, given that Gujarat bagged Buttler’s services at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Sudharsan underwent surgery for a hernia in December and has just played one game since his recovery. He played for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Vidarbha but scored just nine runs across both innings.

Arshdeep was on the sidelines during the Indian team’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign.

In the last encounter between Gujarat and Punjab, Sudharsan scored a 34-ball 31, while Arshdeep picked up one wicket off the 13 deliveries he bowled.

But Sudharsan has been able to put up a good performance against the Punjab bowler. Off 20 balls bowled by Arshdeep, the Gujarat batter has scored 31 runs while getting dismissed just once in IPL 2023, at a strike rate of 155.
