Now, You Can Reactivate Aadhaar Card After False Death Report. Steps Inside | Business News

Last Updated:

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India.

Aadhaar serves as proof of identity.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced an official procedure to reactivate Aadhaar numbers wrongly deactivated due to individuals being mistakenly listed as deceased.

These errors typically occur because of data mismatches or mistakes in death registration processes. This can lead to incorrect assumptions and subsequent deactivation of Aadhaar cards. Hence, it is important to be aware of the newly launched process of the UIDAI to avoid any disruption to accessing Aadhaar-related services.

According to UIDAI rules, a person’s Aadhaar card may get deactivated after officials validate the necessary records. They match the death registration details with the Aadhaar database and official records for this purpose.

Significance Of Aadhaar Cards:

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India. It remains valid for an individual’s lifetime and serves as proof of identity.

Since Aadhaar cards are an essential gateway to accessing a host of government and non-government schemes in India, their deactivation can cause trouble for the person. You need Aadhaar card details for services such as getting a new phone number, banking services, direct benefit schemes, driving licenses, tax-related submissions, etc.

Step-By-Step Procedure To Reactivate Your Aadhaar Number:

Submit Request:

Visit your nearest UIDAI Regional Office/State Office or send a post or email to request a reactivation step. You will need to submit your details in the prescribed application format (Annexure) to the UIDAI office.

Fill out the form:

In the prescribed format, submit your details such as the Aadhaar number, name, parents’ identity, gender, date of birth, address, signature and any other necessary details.

The format can be accessed here: https://uidai.gov.in/images/Circular_for_reactivation_of_wrongly_reported_deceased_cases.pdf

Biometric Submission:

After receiving your request, the concerned office will review it and schedule an appointment at a designated Aadhaar centre. You will need to visit this centre and submit your biometric details. This includes your face, iris and fingerprint information. This process is carried out under the supervision of a UIDAI official. Typically, it takes two weeks from the date of request submission to do this process.

Aadhaar Reactivation Status:

Within 30 days of your biometric submission, UIDAI is expected to inform you of the status of your Aadhaar card. You will receive an update via SMS, and you can also check the status on the e-Aadhaar portal.

Once it is confirmed that an Aadhaar number was wrongly deactivated due to a mistaken death report, UIDAI will reactivate the number. It will also inform the concerned Registrar of Births and Deaths, Registrar General of India and the Aadhaar holder.
